2021 VARAC Vintage Grand Prix
June 17-20, 2021
Presented by VARAC
We are pleased to report that the 2021 VARAC Vintage Grand Prix (VGP) will be held June 17 through 2, 2021, on the historic Mosport Grand Prix Track at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, just outside of Bowmanville, Ontario.
This is the 60th anniversary of the track’s opening in 1961 so we expect our event to have special significance this year. The first major race held at “Mosport” was the Player’s 200 which was run on June 24, 1961. Entries included Porsches, Lotuses, a Jag, a Corvette and assorted other race cars. Many of the same makes and models will be running at the VGP.
The featured marque for 2021 is Lotus. We hope to have a significant cross section of Lotuses entered, including both production sportscars and purpose-built racing models.
Recognizing that the Corona virus will likely still be with us and that it may require special protocols and procedures, we will comply with all government restrictions and requirements in force at the time. If the borders remain closed and travel is in any way limited we may revise the number and type of off-track activities, as well as the on-track schedule.
Register early and save
As in prior years, we encourage everyone to register before May 31, 2021 with an early bird discount if you register before Dec 31, 2020. We do not charge anyone’s credit cards before June 1 and if you cancel before your card has been charged there are not penalties or fees charged at all.
So, go ahead and pre-register now safe in the knowledge that if you need to cancel there won’t be any penalties for doing so as long as you withdraw by May 31, 2021.
Thursday, June 17 is the pre-event Test Day with run groups for open wheeled, closed wheeled and street cars. If you have never run on the Mosport Grand Prix Track at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park you must run the Test Day, unless you request and receive a waiver from the VARAC Race Director.
Along with our traditional Vintage-Historic (cars built before 1972), Classic (cars built up to 1999), and Formula Classic (openwheeled and Monoposto cars built up to 1999), in 2021 we’ll also have the following guest grids: The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship, The Formula Ford Challenge Series, and the Vintage Sports 2000 North America Series.
- On track Friday we run practice and qualifying sessions for all run groups. Off track Friday (Covid permitting) there will be a sit down dinner in the CTMP Conference Centre, followed by a movie for anyone that wants to “hang around”.
- Saturday there will be races in the morning and afternoon for all run groups and on Sunday we hold our Feature and Special Races. Saturday (Covid permitting) we will hold the Steam Whistle Paddock Tour (sort of a roaming dinner party in the paddock featuring free Steam Whistle Lager), followed by the Safety Crew’s “Mudmen” party in the big top tent.
- Sunday, in addition to the on-track activities, we hold the Field of Dreams Car Show off track, including parade laps for car show entries on the Grand Prix track
