VARAC Racers Head to CTMP for BEMC Indian Summer Trophy Races

TORONTO, ON (Sept 7, 2015) – The Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada will be competing this coming weekend, Sept 12 and 13, 2015 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport) for the 61st Annual BEMC Indian Summer Trophy Races.

“This is your opportunity to come and find out all about Vintage Racing” says VARAC Membership Director Ivan Samila. “There will be VARAC grids for Vintage/Historic and Classic (G70+, G90). This event also hosts the 7th round of the CASC-OR Regional Race Championship and the final race of the Toyo Tire F1600 Championship. Other race groups will include a 3 Hour Enduro for GT cars, GT Sprints as well as Formula Libre and F4. It promises to be an exciting weekend, full of action. Come out and join us!”

Founded in 1928 as a motorcycle racing club, the British Empire Motor Club has organized more motorsports events than any other club in Canada! Back in 1958, the members – on a huge gamble – took an option on a piece of property north of Bowmanville and put on the first competitive event, a motorcycle scramble, on May 24, 1959, at what became Mosport Park, more recently CTMP. The club, with partners, operated Mosport until 1966 when it was sold to private interests. The club celebrates its 87th anniversary this year.

The first winner of the famous Indian Summer Trophy was Fred Hayes in a Triumph back in 1955. Other winners include names like Denis Coad, Francis Bradley, Peter Ryan, John Cannon, Peter Lerch, Ludwig Heimrath and Gary Magwood. As the VARAC championship season begins to wind down this will be the second last Ontario race of 2015, with valuable points for Vintage Historic and Classic race cars.

VARAC Splits Its Grid Between Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Waterford Hills This Weekend

TORONTO, ON (July 23, 2013) – Following their feature Canadian Historic Grand Prix event last month the Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada (VARAC) competitors have decided to divert their attention to multiple tracks this weekend. VARAC’s Group 70+ grid will be competing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as part of the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races (July 27, 28) and the Vintage/Historic grid will attend the Waterford Hills Vintage Races (July 26-28).

“Waterford Hills is such a favoured event on the North American vintage circuit” says Del Bruce, VARAC’s President and Race Director. “When it was announced that the schedule would collide with the CASC-OR’s regional schedule we made the decision to support both events, rather than choose one over the other. Both are important to our members and our commitment to BARC and CASC-OR. We think of it as double-the-fun for our club this weekend.”

This year’s Waterford event will feature the Trans Am B Sedan Challenge Race as well as the VSCDA Vintage Vee Series Points Race. Information regarding this event can be found at www.waterfordhills.com and on their Facebook page.

The Group 70+ cars are looking forward to an exciting re-match of the close competition and crowded grids that were experienced at the CHGP. Information regarding the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy event can be found at:

Provisional Schedule available here.

Complimentary Tickets available here.

Both of this weekend’s events are the fourth VARAC points races of the year. Results and Point Standings are posted here.

VARAC is the Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada whose members share a desire to preserve, restore and race historically significant cars in a form as close to the original specification as possible. We race cars made in 1989 or earlier in Ontario and Quebec. The highlight of our season is the Canadian Historic Grand Prix held annually in June at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The 2014 CHGP will feature the Triumph MG Challenge.

VARAC 2013 Race Season Gets Underway This Weekend

TORONTO, ON (April 29, 2012) – The snow has melted and the grass is finally getting green so it’s time for the competitors from the Vintage Automobile Racing Association (VARAC) to hit the track for their first race of the season.

Cars from the Vintage/Historic and Group 70+ classes will be participating in the BEMC 63rd Annual Spring Trophy Races this Saturday May 4th and Sunday May 5th at the newly refurbished Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

2013 VARAC Race Season Starts This Weekend

During the off-season the addition of a VARAC Festival Championship in concert with vintage clubs in the U.S. was formulated to compliment the already popular VARAC Regional Championship which is run as an integral part of the CASC Ontario Region schedule.

It was also announced a short time ago that Shellbourne Fuels has come on board as the VARAC Driver’s Championship Primary Sponsor, providing the club with some necessary resources and the competitor base with a fully customizable fuel program.

“This is going to be a great season of racing,” said VARAC President Del Bruce. “We have been working diligently over the winter to continue to grow the sport of vintage car racing.  Our new sponsorships and our evolving relationship with some key vintage groups in the US are really enhancing the vintage racing experience for our members,” he added.

The highlight of the season is always the Canadian Historic Grand Prix, this year taking place June 14-16 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The event will continue to celebrate the history of Canadian motorsport as this years featured class will be the Rothmans Cup Porsche 944’s that provided some of the closest racing ever seen and launched the professional careers of many home-grown stars.
